After a great 100% winning start in the league Pegasus
began their
When the draw was made there was a collective groan as
purely based on the distance we had to travel (50miles) this was about the worst
tie we could have had.
We also had some players unavailable and whilst the squad
was still strong we had to play one or two lads in unfamiliar positions.
On what was the hottest October day anybody could remember
on a hard bumpy pitch we felt like it was going to be a tough match. The game
began and the home side started brightly with their midfield three winning
headers and making things difficult for Pegasus. However we soon got to grips
with their formation and took the lead when a defensive error caused by the
pitch let the evergreen striker Gally in to score his first ever goal for
Pegasus with a magnificent strike. We
then remained on top for most of the half with one or two half chances and
Johnny Mc was denied a blatant penalty when the ref decided incorrectly that the
foul occurred outside the box. However Brackley equalised before half time with
a decent effort in the bottom corner.
We felt at half time that we were the better side and that
they were there for the taking, and after soaking up some pressure at the start
we went on to dominate the game with lots of pressure and corners. It was from a
corner that the second goal came, a rasping 20 yarder from Derek Kirkpatrick (out
of retirement once again!!) which left the keeper no chance. The last twenty
minutes or so were very comfortable with substitute Suni unlucky not to make it
3-1 with a great header which struck the post.
So hopefully we will get a home tie in the next round. Man
of the Match was Derek K for a superb all round performance. Special mention
also to Danny Strat, Sincy and Chwas all playing out of position and Liam for
running the line.
