Corby Pegasus got their campaign of to a winning start with a good win over Roade.
Pegasus started well and their quick passing football created quite a few chances but they found the young Roade goalkeeper in inspired form as he pulled out save after save to deny Ian Wood, Liam Duffy and Dragoslav Krunic as well as Iain Doherty’s header shaving the post.
Pegasus continued to press for the opening goal but couldn’t find a way past the Roade defence and on the half hour mark Roade took the lead against the play when their Centre Forward (Mark Drake) was allowed to turn and fire into the bottom corner.
Pegasus then went back on the attack and within two minutes had drawn level, although the goal had a touch of good fortune about it. Krunic went on a run, beating two Roade defenders, before being dragged wide and just as the Roade defender thought he had cleared the danger, Krunic blocked the clearance and the ball flew into the far corner, for a deserved equalizer. Pegasus were really pressing now and five minutes later took a lead into half time, again Krunic beating his man before drilling his shot under the keeper’s body.
Pegasus took time to settle in the second half and Roade had more of the ball but never threatened the home goal and on the hour mark Pegasus made the points safe, when Man Of The Match Aaron Bailey’s corner was firmly headed home by Steven Thain. Pegasus had further chances to increase their lead with Ben Smith’s screaming volley against the post being the most memorable.
