Honours were even in this hard fought derby match as both goalkeepers made great saves to keep the result scoreless.
On a difficult pitch, good football was always going to be difficult, but both sides served up an entertaining match. Weldon started much the better as Pegasus were pinned back and they were indebted to their young keeper, Craig McShannon, for keeping them in the game, particularly one stunning save when a goal looked certain.
As the half wore on, Pegasus came more into the game and were the better side as half time approached and it was Weldon who had to be grateful to their goalkeeper, particularly for one stop from a rasping shot from Ben Smith.
As the pitch got worse in the second half, good football was rare, but both teams were going all out for the winner but not really creating clear cut chances, although almost won it in the last few moments as Steven Thain’s low free kick, bound for the bottom corner, was pushed away for a corner.
Although played in glue pot conditions the game was a credit to both sides, who never gave up trying to win the match.
