Corby Pegasus Res V Daventry Drayton Grange
After not the best start to the season the reserves have hit a vein of form lately. Today they were competing against Daventy Drayton Grange, who currently sit top of division two, for a place in the next round of the lower junior cup. Due to the run of form and already dispensing of Ringstead who sit second in Daventry’s division expectations were high.
Pegasus started the game with more possession and soon enough chances began to come our way. Several one on one’s and close range efforts were either well stopped by the opposing keeper or squandered wide of his goal.
Then followed a dark moment for the inform right back Scott Nicol. With the ball bouncing around in the area Scott opted to take the safe option and put it out for a corner. However, the mist had descended. Scott got a sight of goal, the strikers instinct within him took over and before Sean could attempt a save the ball was buried in the bottom corner. Pegasus were one down against the run of play but we could take comfort in the fact that it was one of the best finishes we’re likely to see all season.
Determined not to end the half one down Pegasus fought back and it wasn’t long before the ball found the back of the net through Tinny. We ended the half level but knowing we really deserved to be ahead the team was slightly deflated.
The second half began scrappy and the visitors put together the few pieces of football they managed throughout the whole match. Despite this it didn’t lead to any clear cut chances for them and Pegasus began to get organized again. Once we started to play a bit Del delivered one of the best passes your likely to see from a Northants combination reserve player to set up Granty for another goal scoring opportunity. This time there was no mistake and a well struck shot nestled just inside the far post to give Pegasus the lead.
After the goal we were guilty of going to sleep really and not much football followed. In the last 5 minutes some clever time wasting play in the corners meant the clock ran down and the home side held on for the win and progression to the next round.
